Floating down the Mekong

A couple days ago we crossed into Laos at the Chiang Khong-Huay Xai border.  We have spent the past two days on a slow boat floating down the Mekong river and are now in the scenic, French-influenced town of Luang Prabang.  The boat ride was peaceful and beautiful.  Nat turned 24 on our second day of boat riding and when we arrived we celebrated with chocolate croissants and homemade ice cream at a phenomenal little cafe.  Luang Prabang is a seamless blend of French and Asian style architecture, with brick sidewalks and quiet, winding backstreets leading to beautiful temples with monks praying.  We think we might stay a week in this enchanting town.
