After Christmas in Tezpur, we decided to head up into the hills of Meghalaya to the capital city of Shillong. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly people and semi-modern core of the city. We decided to stay until New Years and have been exploring Shillong for several days. One of the most interesting places we’ve found was a bustling market. The market is set in a maze of narrow side streets and alleys that go on for several square blocks. It is full of the sights and smells of Asia and includes sections that range from rows of women sewing to vegetables to fish to a grisly butchery area (selling everything from lung to eyes to feet). You can also find spices, cooking supplies, sweets, garden tools and cloth among other things.
